What Are Digital Badges?

Level up your skills and achievements

Digital badges--also called digital credentials or micro-credentials--are web-based icons representing a learner’s skills and achievements. The metadata accompanying a badge provide details about how, when, and where it was earned. Badges can be shared digitally and used alone or in combination with other forms of certification to provide information about a learner’s skills and experience.

Sharing Accomplishments Through Digital Portfolios

Customize portfolios for specific applications

Discovery Corps youth can create and curate portfolios of their earned badges, and then share their portfolios with college admissions officers, employers, scholarship committees, family, and friends. Portfolios allow youth to take control of their accomplishments and use them to unlock future learning and job opportunities.

Learning Together

Badges facilitate Discovery Corps processes

Students can track their progress alongside their fellow Discovery Corps members, providing opportunities for peer-supported learning. Discovery Corps program coordinators can also monitor students’ progress, making sure each student is receiving the support they need to be successful in the program.
